When you're a student, you know that you can take every extra bit of money you can get. Saving cash as a student isn't easy. At the very least, when you're out of school, you don't have to buy expensive text books and you can work longer hours actually making money. It seems like there's always more reason to spend money than to save it, and you wind up with far less money on hand than you often need even to just get by. Well, in the name of stretching that money farther, here are a few ideas for saving cash as a student.
Keep a Payday Lender's Phone Number Handy
Many people have a negative view of instant payday loans lenders. The truth is that they're really just lending out money, and that's it. If you can borrow responsibly and pay it back on time, then you have nothing to fear. They're not like credit card companies who will hit you with hidden fees, they don't charge you every month whether or not you use their services. A payday loan lender is up front and reasonable, usually offering fair rates on fair amounts of cash. If you're a responsible borrower, there's very little risk in taking out a loan.
Eat Cheap
You've probably got this one covered, but it's worth mentioning a few tips, here. For instance, you can actually make yogurt in your oven with a gallon of milk and, well, a spoonful of yogurt. There are a lot of recipes like this that you can check out to create your own food at home and save a ton of cash at the grocery store. However, don't get so addicted to bargain hunting that you waste a lot of time and energy saving five or ten cents at a time on a bottle of soda. Be reasonable.
Sell the Car
If you drive a car, we're going to be honest with you: If you're looking up an article on how to save money as a student, then you might not need the expenses of a car. Between car insurance and gasoline, it really does make more sense to ride a bike, take the bus or simply walk to class. If you don't live prohibitively far away from the school, sell your car. If you do, move closer to the school and sell your car. You can worry about managing a set of wheels later. For now, if you're a struggling student, a car can just be a money pit.
However you choose to save money, you'll wind up deciding for yourself what is more important and what you can afford to do away with to save some money.
